The Cotswold School has always placed great emphasis on language learning and all our students have the opportunity to study Spanish with many additionally studying French or German.

Our philosophy is to raise achievement in all our languages, whilst providing a broad, varied and interesting learning experience. Students have the opportunity to use these languages in real life situations whilst on residential trips, exchanges and work experience trips.

The Cotswold School also run a Language Leaders Programme for Year 9 and 12 students, enabling them to develop both their language and personal skills as they prepare and deliver lessons at our link primary school.

At Pate’s Grammar School, we offer a broad curriculum and support a diverse setting, proudly supporting and celebrating students’ home language and culture.  From year 7, all students embrace the challenge of studying two modern foreign languages from a choice of four (French, German, Spanish and Mandarin), and most will go on to study at least one language at GCSE. Continuing their interest in languages to A level, many students go on to study at least one language at A level.

We strive to engage and motivate all our students studying languages by providing extra curricular language related activities; for example year 9s take part in the GCHQ National Language Competition, we enter students for the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators competition and our 6th Formers take part in foreign language debating competitions in their language of study.
